President Barack Obama

I am overwhelmed with emotion after witnessing, the educated, eloquent orator and suave, Barack Obama become President of these United States of America.

I had a conversation with my 62-year-old father yesterday that replays in my mind. While having breakfast, I was telling him how November 4 was taking so long to come, any other week, the days in my life just mesh together, yet Tuesday, November 4, 2008 seemed to creep very slowly. He replies, “Carla, you’re 23-years young and you’ve experiencing Obama become President, there are people who are my age and older who never thought we would see a Black man become President.”

I had to agree and understand how privilege I am to be able to see Barack Obama become President while being so young. To still be in my prime and see how a Black man can overcome adversity, speak with such pose and confidence and to see Obama kiss his beautiful Black wife and mother of his daughters is a privilege.

Yesterday, I was filled with so much anxiety that I could not sleep Monday night, the anxiety continued until Barack Obama won the Presidency. I took a slip of champagne, while tearing up and screaming for joy. What a joyous feeling it was, to be in the company of White and Black people celebrating a change that we can believe in, it was remarkable.

Today, feels like an early New Year’s Day. Although I woke up with no voice and slight veisalgia, I have pep in my step and I feel refreshed and renewed. I can honestly say that all things are possible with hard work, dedication and confidence. Always a go-getter, I feel even more empowered to accomplish my goals because President Barack Obama not only inspires change, he inspires me.

Barack Obama's version of Project Runway

Obama’s campaign has arranged for twenty fashion designers to create clothing and bags to sell on the campaign’s website starting next month.

With a Project Runway feel, Obama’s camp gave designers one week to come up with a sketch for the campaign to approve, and present a sample. With no rules on pricing, designers were allowed to use Barack’s image and his rising-sun logo in their design.

Fab designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Issac Mizrahi designed tote bags, while Derek Lam designed a cotton muslin bag with a carnation print from his spring 2004 collection. My girl, Tracy Reese made a shirt and Charles Nolan made a wrap T-shirt.

There is also speculation that Vera Wang, Russell Simmons, and Beyonce are also designing items for Obama! How fabulous! Voting for change with style!

Obama makes history, claims nomination; Clinton plots her next move

Yesterday, Sen. Barack Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination following an impressive battle with Sen. Hillary Clinton.

A victory in the Montana Democratic primary, Sen. Obama captured the 2,118 delegates needed to secure the nomination at the party’s convention in August. When the polls closed in Montana and South Dakota, the Obama campaign also snagged the endorsement of 26.5 superdelegates.

The Washington Post states the Obama nomination as, “an historic achievement that for the fist time will place an African American at the top of a major political party’s ticket.”

In his speech, Obama graciously thanks America for believing in change:

"You chose to listen not to your doubts or your fears, but to your greatest hopes and highest aspirations," Obama declared in his speech in St. Paul. "Tonight, we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another- a journey that will bring a new and better day to America. Because of you, tonight, I can stand before you and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for your president of the United States."

BA-RACK THE VOTE!

To increase awareness of Barack Obama, Howard University graduate, TV/Film writer, Brandon and his sister Spelman graduate and stylist for music artists, Lori came up with the idea to make politics cool and fashionable.

Brandon came up with the ingenious idea while watching Obama’s rally in Austin, TX, and then brainstormed with his sister who designed the Ba-Rack The Vote shirts. After making the shirts, they got one to Hill Harper of CSI NY, who loved the shirt and ordered 250 more to put in gift bags for his party after Oprah Winfrey’s “Barack Obama Fundraiser” in Montecito, CA.

Brandon and Lori believe in Obama, they believe that he’s a leader in a field of politicians and real leaders only come along once in a lifetime, so they invested their money and took a chance. The family duo wanted to create a shirt that people loved and would wear all the time, not just at rallies. The duo states that Obama supporters wear their shirts to clubs just as quickly as they wear them to class.

The shirts represent a movement that increases, Barack Obama’s awareness everyday, and in the end, it will translate onto votes. Get your shirt, wear it everywhere and vote!
